ESOP support center employment opportunity

The Ohio Employee Ownership Center at Kent State University is a nonprofit organization that provides research and technical assistance to those interested in employee ownership, as well as ownership training to established employee-owned businesses.  The Program Coordinator position will support the expansion of the OEOC’s business ownership succession planning program through public outreach, organizing seminars for business owners on ownership succession, and working closely with retiring owners who choose to sell to their employees.  Interested candidates must be committed to the philosophy of democratic employee ownership and have work experience in this or a related field.  Review of applications will begin June 1st.  Preferred start date is July 1st.

The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience working with both employee ownership and business retention. A bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field) and at least three years of work experience in economic development or employee ownership are required. Strong candidates will also have experience working with small and family-owned businesses and excellent organizational, speaking, and writing skills. Experience working with revolving loan funds or public sector lending is a plus. Experience with distance learning and webinars is also a plus.

The successful applicant will also be expected to participate in the on-going work of the Center which includes writing articles, answering routine inquires by phone or mail, research, attending staff meetings, and completing routine administrative tasks. Good team skills are important.

Salary is commensurate with skills and experience and comparable to that in the non-profit community development field. Excellent benefits are provided.

The OEOC promotes employee ownership of firms in Ohio through information, outreach, and preliminary technical assistance to employee groups, managers, and owners interested in employee ownership and through training and education in existing employee-owned firms. The OEOC is funded primarily by contracts with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and the Ohio Department of Development, grants from private foundations, and memberships from employee-owned companies and employee-ownership professionals. It has a staff of eight.
