Near East Area Renewal (NEAR)

Established in 2003, Near East Area Renewal (NEAR) aims to spur the renewal of neighborhoods in Indianapolis’ Near East community.  To date, its focus has been in the St. Clair Place neighborhood, where it has renovated more than 50 homes. NEAR also runs a homesteading program, which forgives up to $15,000 in loans if lower- and middle-income people purchase and renovate an abandoned or vacant house in the Near East area and then live their for at least five years.
