The University of Cincinnati

As the largest employer in the region with 16,000 employees, expenditures of more than $1.1 billion a year, and an endowment of over $1 billion, the University of Cincinnati is the largest anchor organization in the city.  Since the early 2000s, it has allocated more than 10 percent of its endowment to local investments intended to stabilize and revitalize the city's Uptown District.  The University has experienced a nearly three-to-one leveraging on its endowment money through tax-debt, loans from banks and other sources.
